It's fairly easy to become cynical about social change and political protest these days. "What’s the use?" we can say from the comfort of our western-European homes. But beyond our borders there are people fighting the good fight, struggling against suppression, hatred, homophobia and austerity dictated by capitalism. And just beyond your own doorstep social inequality is growing.
These last years the failings of a market-dominated capitalist system became evident. Who will rise to the occasion and replace it with a society based on true democracy and solidarity?
This song is a call to arms. And it's an homage to the people of the Tahrir-square in Egypt who fought off one dictator and have to face another one. To the Greeks who are struggling under the yoke of EU-dictated austerity. To millions of people across the globe who have to deal with failing governments and are standing up because they can imagine a better and fairer world. And like May 1968 taught us, that's an image that no riot-cop can beat out of our heads.
